Thaipusam

Thaipusam is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, celebrated during the Tamil month of Thai (January–February). The festival commemorates the moment Goddess Parvati presented Lord Murugan with the Vel (divine spear) to vanquish the demon Soorapathman, symbolising the victory of good over evil.

Devotees undertake vows and fulfill them through acts of devotion, such as carrying the Kavadi and/or milkpots. Devotees carry Kavadis and milkpots over a distance, often with piercings on their body, symbolising their devotion and willingness to endure hardship in honour of Lord Murugan.

Thaipusam represents purification, devotion, and the triumph of self-discipline over worldly desires. It is a time for devotees to seek divine grace, overcome personal challenges, and celebrate the universal themes of faith and perseverance.
