Kantha Sashti is observed in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October–November) over six days. It marks the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Soorapathman in an epic battle, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. The sixth day culminates in the dramatic reenactment of Soorasamharam, the slaying of Soorapathman.
Many devotees observe strict fasting throughout the six days, adhering to spiritual discipline and self-control. They meditate, chant Murugan mantras, and recite the Kanda Sashti Kavacham, a hymn invoking his protection.
